Price stretches too far from VWAP, stalls, and snaps back. You're fading the stretch, not the trend.
“Trend days wreck this setup. Check the day's range against its usual range before the first fade, or every reclaim-shaped candle costs the same while the move keeps running further without you.”Jason Parker · Founder
The volume-weighted average price acts like a rubber band on a range day. Price stretches two or three standard deviations away, momentum stalls, and it snaps back toward the average. This works because most sessions aren't trend days. Most of them chop.
| Entry | At a defined VWAP band extreme, after the first sign of stalling: a doji, a failed push, size getting absorbed on the tape |
| Exit | Back at VWAP itself, or the first standard deviation band |
| Stop | Just past the extreme, sized tight since the whole idea depends on speed |

Trend days. On a day with genuine direction behind it, price can ride the upper band the entire session without ever paying you back, and every reclaim-shaped candle you fade costs the same twenty cents while the move keeps running two dollars further without you. Check the day's range against its usual range before the first fade.
Want the exact version of this? The SPY 5-Minute VWAP Reversion System turns this idea into fixed entry, stop, and target rules. Four setups built on this exact idea, including the one time this system trades with the trend instead of against it.
None of this works without the framework underneath it. Read risk management next, or run your own numbers in the position-size calculator.

Entry comes at a defined VWAP band extreme, two or three standard deviations out, after the first sign of stalling shows up: a doji, a failed push, or size getting absorbed on the tape.
The stop sits just past the extreme, sized tight since the whole idea depends on speed. The target is back at VWAP itself, or the first standard deviation band if the move stalls before completing the trip.
Trend days. On a day with genuine direction, price can ride the upper or lower band the entire session without ever paying back the fade, and every reclaim-shaped candle costs the same amount while the trend keeps running further away. Check the day's range against its usual range before the first fade.
